About EcoRestore Montana

EcoRestore Montana is part of the EcoRestore Portal network — a collaborative community of state-based restoration resources developed at universities across the American West.

This site is developed and maintained by the Faist Lab at the University of Montana, in partnership with the Montana Climate Office, and supported by the Bureau of Land Management.

How this site works

  1. EcoRestoreMT Tool — Filter 225+ native Montana plant species by habitat, soil type, restoration goal, lifecycle, and more. Export results to CSV or share a bookmarked filter view.
  2. Restoration Goals — Learn about 12 Montana-specific restoration objectives and which plants best support each one.
  3. Restoration Guide — Practical guidance from site assessment and seed sourcing through establishment, ongoing management, and troubleshooting.
  4. Local Resources — County contacts, Tribal Nation resources, seed suppliers, and extension services.

Land Acknowledgment

EcoRestore Montana recognizes that the lands of Montana are the ancestral homelands of many Indigenous peoples. We acknowledge Montana’s federally recognized Tribal Nations — including the Blackfeet Nation, Crow Nation, Fort Belknap Indian Community, Fort Peck Assiniboine & Sioux Tribes, Little Shell Chippewa Tribe, Northern Cheyenne Nation, Rocky Boy’s (Chippewa-Cree) Tribe, and the Confederated Salish and Kootenai Tribes — as stewards of this land since time immemorial. We are committed to respectful partnership and to honoring Indigenous ecological knowledge in restoration practice.
